Maria's Run4Refugees!
Story
Hello hello everyone!
This October 13th, I will be taking part in Run 4 Refugees by running 10km in the Melbourne Marathon (which, I assure you, I will not find easy. I may very well die, in fact).
However, in doing so I'm hoping to raise some much needed funds for a cause that's very close to my heart. For 12 years the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) has been fighting for the human rights of asylum seekers, providing sanctuary, support and hope to thousands of displaced people who are facing mounting challenges from an increasingly hostile Australian government.
My fundraising target is $2500, but really every donation, big or small, counts! Be assured that every dollar raised goes straight to the ASRC and will make a difference in the lives of some of Australia's most vulnerable people. ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
