Bobby's Run for Refugees
Bobby's Run for Refugees
Story
I'm taking part in Run 4 Refugees as part of the Melbourne Marathon and hoping to raise much needed funds for Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC)
Anybody who knows me, knows I do not run ...unless happy hour is closing soon at the local.
In my defence I am not built to run; a dodgy back with several healed fractures, a knee that has had to have fragments removed from it last year, a foot that was smashed up in a motorcycle accident - hey I can come up with several excuses
But I did this last year and I am doing it again this year.
Simply because I am not running for myself.
I am running so that a family of asylum seekers in Melbourne can have a meal today.
I am running for the 4 refugee boys - the oldest who was 19 who walked from Dandenong to West Melbourne who heard that they could get a meal at the ASRC. They had not eaten for 4 days
I am running so that Hazara boys who were raped and escaped from Afghanistan as refugees can have access to English language classes
I am running so that refugees who have no access to work can atleast have a hot meal once a day
I am running so that the 3 year old child who came aboard a boat can have basic medical care.
Make a difference by supporting my run with a donation. All donations big or small will make a difference in the lives of some of Australia's most vulnerable people! Click on Donate Now (right) and do something amazing!
Thanks for your support.

Activity
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
