ASRC Legal
Story
The ASRC Legal team are pulling themselves away from the office to take part in the Melbourne Marathon in the hope to raise much needed funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC).
The ASRC Human Rights Law Program in conjunction with the Vic Bar and other legal services has provided over 20,000 hours of pro bono litigation, advocacy and legal advice since January 2013.
The current government intends to withdraw funding for legal assistance to those seeking protection in Australia which means the burden will fall on pro bono services such as the ASRC Human Rights Law Program.
We represent some of the most vulnerable clients in our community in support of every human’s basic right to seek protection from harm. We could not do this without the support from the Vic Bar, firms such as Russell Kennedy, King Wood Mallesons, Allens, Maddocks, PILCH and of course our amazing volunteers.
The ASRC Human Rights Law Program does not rely on federal government funding and is solely reliant on fundraising and volunteer/pro-bono support. With the pending increase in demand for assistance and representation we, as well as the rest of the ASRC, require continued support.
Make a difference by supporting our run with a donation. All donations big or small will make a difference in the lives of some of Australia's most vulnerable people! Click on Donate Now (right) and do something amazing!
Activity
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
